Hailed by Time Out New York as “the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years”, Something Rotten! follows Nick Bottom and his brother Nigel as they desperately try to write a hit play, but are stuck in the shadow of The Bard. Down on his luck, Nick visits Nostradamus’ notably less talented nephew, Thomas, who foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, and that Shakespeare’s greatest hit will be a play called “Omelette.” The brothers set out to write the world’s very first musical, a tale of breakfast foods peppered with nods to beloved Broadway hits.
